Innovative materials have the potential to impact the way we grow, harvest, and distribute food, by protecting agriculture and feed from pests and the effects of weather and climate change and through preserving foods following harvest or processing as they are transported, stored, and sold. Advancements in engineering biology and materials science also have the potential to further revolutionize biology-based materials that are themselves food, such as plant-derived meats.
